Michael Stern publishes under his own name on eleven properties besides this encyclopedia, and this page lists all of them in one place. They divide the work by subject so that no two cover the same ground. His technical essays deal with the measurable limits on a building. One is floor area ratio, the number the Municipal Art Society’s zoning primer identifies as the value that sets how large a building may be on its lot in each district.1 Another is how very slender towers behave in wind; engineers quoted by Inside Science note that every tall building sways and that the design goal is movement the people inside never notice.2

The subject site takes those questions one mechanism at a time. The developer site describes the work in stages, and the biography site tells of the working life behind them at greater length. Medium, WordPress and Blogger carry the essays themselves, and the profile services point back to them. His company’s website speaks for the firm. This encyclopedia takes up the neighborhoods, architects and building materials connected to his towers, a field none of the others treats at length.
